The bar is a message, not a shipping rule
Shopify applies shipping in Settings → Shipping and delivery. A progress bar only reads the cart and displays how close it is to a number you chose. If those two numbers differ, shoppers will notice at the worst possible moment.
Fix the rate first. Then set the bar to the same amount and currency. See how to choose a free shipping threshold if you have not picked the number yet.
Check these mismatches
- Different amounts. The bar is set to $50 and the free rate starts at $75, or the other way around.
- Different currencies. The bar shows USD while the market sells in INR or EUR.
- The free rate is missing in a zone. Domestic orders qualify; international ones do not, but the bar still appears.
- Discounts change the cart. A 10% code can drop the cart below the threshold after the bar already celebrated. Decide whether your rate is based on the discounted total, and write the bar copy to match.
- The app embed is off. The bar never appears, or an old theme still shows a leftover banner with a different number.
Set the shipping rate in Shopify
- Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery.
- Open the profile you actually use at checkout.
- In each zone where you advertise free shipping, add a rate named clearly, priced at 0, with a condition based on order price at your threshold.
- Place a test order just below and just above the amount, on desktop and on a phone.
Point ShipLift at the same goal
ShipLift Progress Bar shows progress only. In Rules & Targeting, enter the same threshold and currency as the rate. Switch the bar on under Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds.
If the bar is missing entirely, confirm it is enabled, test mode is off, and the page targeting includes the page you are viewing. If you dismissed it yourself, it stays hidden on that browser until the dismiss time ends.
A two-minute test
- Empty cart: the offer is stated, no “unlocked” message.
- Just below the threshold: the remaining amount is exact.
- At or above: success copy, and checkout actually shows free shipping.
- Remove an item: the bar drops back. Checkout charges shipping again.
Do this in a cart drawer as well as on the cart page. A bar that only updates after a full page reload looks broken. How to add a free shipping progress bar without code covers setup, and the cart-drawer notes cover live updates.
