A repeated serial number does not mean the old repair job is the current one. Each visit needs its own record so staff can explain what was reported and done.
Prepare your input
At intake, record customer, device, serial number and fault in the customer's words. If an estimate is available, state the amount and currency clearly and keep approval evidence in your normal business process.
Work through the task
Save a new job in Job Card and Repair Desk to obtain a stable ID. Export a printable customer job card. As work proceeds, move it through Received, Diagnosing, Awaiting approval, Repairing, Ready and Collected; update estimate and notes where relevant. Review history when the customer asks for a status update.
Example to try
A laptop arrives with a charging fault and returns months later with a screen problem. Its serial number is the same, but the two jobs need different IDs, estimates and histories. Give the customer the current job ID at intake. When it moves to Ready, staff still need to contact the customer through their normal communication channel.
Check the result
Before collection, match the physical device and serial to the job ID, confirm the work and customer decision, then mark the stage. Keep parts usage and customer communications in your existing records until supported here.
Know the current limits
Stages are manual. Collection does not charge a customer, send a message or delete earlier history.
